Foolish Firsts

April fools!

Where the heck did this come from?  Was it a contrived “hallmark holiday” that went wrong?

We have sweetest day.  Get a card for your sweetie.  Do women really like cards?  Do guys really like buying cards?  We do it, but I’m not sure why.  They certainly don’t seem to hang around very long.

Grandmother’s day is around here someday.  Office assistant day.  Flowers, cards.  They all seem made up, don’t they?

But April fools?  Maybe someone named April was very foolish back in the Middle Ages, and we’re actually celebrating their life.  Maybe April chased all the squirrels out of Ireland, but she didn’t get as much positive press as Patrick.

I’m willing to bet (a whole dollar!) that you will be exposed to something pretty silly.  Not something naked hiding behind a raincoat – that would be rather yucky.  Unless you knew the person and were into that sort of thing.  No, on second thought, still kind of yucky.

Yes, already today you have been exposed to something silly, foolish, and fun.  Where did it come from?  What does it say about us?  Does it really matter?

Let me hear your thoughts!
